Martin Parr and Paul Lowe In Conversation

Photographer Martin Parr spoke in conversation with photojournalist Paul Lowe about his long career, including his most recent photographic work, as well as his film-making, curating, collecting and editing. The talk coincided with the publishing of the new edition of ‘Martin Parr’, by Val Williams, the only comprehensive monograph of his career to date.

Martin Parr is a British photographer, collector, filmmaker and curator. Since the mid-1980s he has established himself as one of the most successful and popular contemporary photographers and a leading member of the prestigious Magnum agency. Major projects include ‘A Fair Day’ (1980-3), ‘The Last Resort’ (1983-6), ‘The Cost of Living’ (1986-9), ‘Common Sense’ (1995-9) and ‘Parrworld’ (2008). More recently Martin has been working on a 4-year project documenting the Black Country, an area of the English West Midlands, in conjunction with Multistory.

Paul Lowe is an award-winning photojournalist living and working between Sarajevo and London and Senior Lecturer in Photography at University of the Arts London. His work is represented by Panos Pictures, and has appeared in Time, Newsweek, Life, The Sunday Times Magazine, The Observer and The Independent.
